Amanda Freedman (Co-Writer)

Amanda Freedman is a Canadian-American Jewish artist and educator who is passionate about using humor to tell stories with heart. Her musical THE ANGEL MAKERS with Lorenzo Pipino has been developed through NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, the @Abrons Series at Abrons Arts Center, NYU Graduate Acting’s The 29 Project, and Western Connecticut State University’s New Works Class. The show will have its premiere production as one of eight new works selected in the 2024 SheNYC Arts Festival at the Connelly Theater. As a lyricist-librettist, Amanda’s other shows in development include ONLY YESTERDAY with Stephanie Leah Evans and Jonah Greene (KU Jayhawk Performance Lab); PLAYGROUND with Olivia Daniels and producer Elly Barlin-Daniels, featuring the music of JUNO award-winning children’s musician Jack Grunsky; and WAITING ON NEW YORK with Natasha Ashworth, Pat Via, and Lisa Michelle Weiner. Amanda taught 8th Grade English for two years as a Teach For America Corps Member, where she incorporated art forms such as poetry, playwriting, and movement into her classroom instruction. She currently works as the Project Coordinator for the National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT), helping oversee the Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge for High School Students. She holds a BA in English from Tufts University and an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU.
