Who are the “real” Angel Makers?

THE ANGEL MAKERS is based on a true story that we first stumbled upon when it was covered in an episode of Lorenzo’s favorite murder podcast. After listening to the episode, we sought out newspaper articles, websites, books, and other sources that shared insight into the events that took place in Nagyrév, Hungary in the years surrounding World War I.

All the sources agree on the following: there was a midwife who moved to the town of Nagyrév, Hungary in the early 1910s; the women of this town were being abused by their husbands so the midwife supplied them with arsenic she distilled from boiling flypaper; and by the time these women—The Angel Makers—were arrested in 1929, they had poisoned between 40-300 people.
